Scoot Henderson injury update: Trail Blazers rookie exits Summer League debut with shoulder injury image

An impressive Summer League debut for Scoot Henderson was unfortunately cut short by an injury.

The No. 3 overall pick in this year's NBA Draft was forced to exit Portland's game against Houston due to an injury to his right shoulder. He was seen walking into the locker room midway through the third quarter.

It is unclear how or when he suffered the injury. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game shortly after leaving the floor.

Henderson had put together an eye-catching performance in his debut for the Blazers before suffering the injury. He dropped 13 points in the first quarter alone and finished the game with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting.

The 19-year-old spent last season with NBA G League Ignite, averaging 16.5 points, 6.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game. Here is what his injury means for him and the Blazers moving forward:

What is Scoot Henderson's injury?

The Trail Blazers have not provided more information on the injury other than that it being to his right shoulder.

Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes reported after the game Henderson will receive an MRI. According to Haynes, there is optimism it is not a dislocation.

How long is Scoot Henderson out?

Whether or not Henderson plays in the remainder of Portland's Summer League games will depend largely on the severity of the injury.

It is worth noting that in 2022, the Trail Blazers decided to hold then-rookie Shaedon Sharpe out of the remainder of the Summer League after he suffered a small labral tear in his left shoulder. Like Henderson, Sharpe was injured in his debut, but the injury was of great severity.
