It's official — Russell Westbrook is a Nugget.
The nine-time All-Star signed a deal with the Nuggets on Friday, giving Denver an added option to its backcourt already headlined by Jamal Murray.
Westbrook was traded earlier this offseason from the Clippers to the Jazz, however, Utah bought him out, making him a free agent. At the time, it was reported that the 2017 NBA MVP would be signing with Denver, so the move today is not surprising.
Denver traded backup point guard Reggie Jackson earlier this offseason, opening a vacancy that Westbrook will now fill. He also gives them an insurance option for Murray, who has only played over 60 games once since the 2018-19 season.
The veteran guard is coming off a season where he averaged 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals over 22.5 minutes per game for the Clippers. The 35-year-old was a Sixth Man of the Year candidate for Los Angeles.
