D'Antoni will receive a four-year deal that will include a final year option, according to the report.
D'Antoni, 65, would replace interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who helped lead the Rockets to the first round of the NBA playoffs, where they were beaten by the Warriors in five games. He led the team to a 41-41 record after former coach Kevin McHale was fired 11 games into the season.

D'Antoni's last coaching stint came as an associate coach with the 76ers under Brett Brown. If the Rockets sign D'Antoni, it would be his fifth time to serve as head coach of a team. D'Antoni has amassed a .516 record over 12 seasons with four different teams (Nuggets, Suns, Knicks and Lakers). His last stint as head coach came with the Lakers from 2012-14. He resigned after the 2013-14 season; he compiled a 67-87 record in LA.
D'Antoni was named the NBA Coach of the Year in the 2004-05 season after he led the Suns to the best record in the league at 62-20.
