Monday’s matchup between the Pelicans and the Bulls was a sight to behold for NBA fans everywhere.
The game went into double overtime, the Pelicans went on a 21-2 run to turn a 17-point deficit into a 2-point lead in the fourth quarter and, to top it all off, DeMarcus Cousins finished the game with 44 points, 24 rebounds and 10 assists.
As if that weren’t enough, the NBA announced on Wednesday that it had assessed Pelicans point guard Rajon Rondo a postgame technical foul for trying to distract a Bulls player during his free throw attempts late in the fourth quarter.
But it’s not like these free throws came at an incredibly pivotal moment in the game, right? Wrong.
The NBA announced that it has assessed Rajon Rondo a postgame technical foul for attempting to distract Justin Holliday from the bench on his free throws at the end of the 4Q in Monday's game.

With 0.3 seconds left on the game clock, Pelicans forward Darius Miller fouled Justin Holiday on his 3-point attempt, giving the Bulls an opportunity to take the lead. Holiday would make the first two, but not the third, which is when Rondo decided to throw his towel up in the air. The miss sent the game into overtime and gave New Orleans the opportunity to secure the win.
Now the important question that the NBA has to answer is not whether Rondo should have been penalized in-game, giving Holliday another opportunity to score — it’s whether the play-by-play information on NBA.com will be updated.
