The Pacers' calculated risk to acquire Pascal Siakam is paying off.

Weeks before the NBA trade deadline, Indiana struck a deal to acquire Siakam from Toronto. And while the deal helped the Pacers earn the East's sixth seed and win their first playoff series in a decade, the associated risk stems from Siakam's impending free agency.

What does the future hold for Siakam and the Pacers? Here's a look at his contract situation and what that could mean moving forward.

Pascal Siakam free agency outlook

In January, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that "Siakam is excited about the deal to the Pacers and expected to be eager to work out a new contract with the franchise this summer."

Siakam, who celebrated his 30th birthday in April, did not sign a contract extension with Indiana so that he could maximize his earning potential as an unrestricted free agent.

The Pacers, who inherited Siakam's Bird Rights, can offer the two-time All-Star a five-year deal worth roughly 30 percent of the 2024-25 salary cap. Based on salary cap projections, a deal worth 30 percent of the cap would be worth roughly $42.3 million annually.

Among the teams projected to have the most cap space this offseason are the Pistons, 76ers, Magic and, yes, Raptors.

Given Indiana's success in Siakam's short time with the franchise, signs would indicate that his preference is to remain with the organization. Re-signing with the Pacers would align with Siakam's agent's January assertion that "[Siakam's] future looks bright in Indiana."
