Pacers center Domantas Sabonis spent the past few days engulfed in trade rumors, prompting him to say Saturday, "Let my agents do the rest of it and we’ll see what happens.”
Instead of a trade, however, Sabonis has a new four-year, $79.4 million contract extension, according to The Athletic.
Sabonis, who came to Indiana with Victor Oladipo in the June 2017 trade that sent Paul George to Oklahoma City, averaged 14.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game last season and finished second in the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year voting behind Lou Williams.
But there had been some talk the past year about whether he fit on the Pacers roster — and payroll — with fellow 6-foot-11 star Myles Turner. Turner signed a four-year, $80 million extension in October 2018.
Of course, the Pacers could still trade Sabonis, although the deal would likely come closer to the February trade deadline, according to reports. Having Sabonis under contract boosts his trade value, doing away with the uncertainty that he might have walked away as a restricted free agent next summer.
