NBA trade rumors: Latest news, updates, buzz on 2018 trade deadline day image

This year's NBA trade deadline turned into a race to see how many deals the Cavs could get done in the span of a few hours.

And if you think that's an exaggeration, check out the list.

NBA TRADE DEADLINE: Biggest winners and losers

Yes, all of that happened, but plenty of teams backed away from deadline chaos Thursday.

The Clippers kept Lou Williams and DeAndre Jordan despite constant speculation about which team would finally persuade LA to let them go, and the Grizzlies retained Tyreke Evans after putting him on the shelf under the assumption he would be sent to a contender. There will likely be a race to the buyout market now with the option of trading eliminated.

Sporting News provided live updates throughout deadline day (all times Eastern). Here's what you missed...

Latest NBA trade rumors, news, updates

3:07 p.m. — Add Tyreke Evans and Marco Belinelli to the list of guys who won't be traded.

3:05 p.m. — DeAndre Jordan is... not going anywhere.

3:01 p.m. — We have reached the deadline, and now we wait to hear if any other late deals will trickle down. The Celtics are one team that stayed conservative at the deadline. Marcus Smart's name emerged in trade rumors, but he's safe now.

2:55 p.m. — TRADE: The Suns make a low-risk move minutes before the deadline, adding Elfrid Payton (and his hair). The Magic will receive a second-round pick (via the Grizzlies) in return.

2:36 p.m. — Hey, maybe Tyreke Evans won't leave Memphis after all. The Grizzlies had been searching for a first-round pick in any deal, but teams aren't willing to budge.

2:26 p.m. — TRADE: After the Pistons and Pelicans previously discussed a deal involving Dante Cunningham, it looks like Cunningham will join the Nets, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

2:23 p.m. — TRADE: The Trail Blazers are sending Noah Vonleh to the Bulls, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. This trade pushes Portland back under the tax. Chicago was willing to take a shot on a young player, and the team doesn't have concerns about money at this point.

2:12 p.m. — PERK IS IN THE BUILDING. Marc Stein of The New York Times reports Kendrick Perkins could be making a return to the NBA. The big man had been playing in the G League, but it looks like he'll end up on the Cavs after a flurry of moves.

2:05 p.m. — TRADE: The Nuggets are sending Emmanuel Mudiay to the Knicks in a three-team deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

2:00 p.m. — ONE HOUR LEFT! Time to cram in those final trades.

1:53 p.m. — Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reports Utah will release Derrick Rose after acquiring him from the Cavs, and it appears Minnesota could be a landing spot for the former MVP, per Marc Stein of The New York Times.

1:45 p.m. — TRADE: The Cavs actually aren't involved here. Everyone take a deep breath.

1:13 p.m. — TRADE: CLEVELAND CANNOT BE STOPPED.

1:03 p.m. — TRADE: The Cavs are making serious moves. Try and keep up with all of this.

12:47 p.m. — These moves don't rise to the level of trading Isaiah Thomas, but they are worth noting.

12:24 p.m. — Worth noting in the Cavs-Lakers deal: the coveted Nets' pick is no longer in play, per ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

12:10 p.m. — TRADE: WOW. The Lakers are sending Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. to the Cavs for Isaiah Thomas and Channing Frye, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

11:59 a.m. — The Cavs are all over the place. Cleveland is talking to the Hornets and Lakers. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports...

11:55 a.m. — Oh, this is a development. The Raptors are trying to work their way into the DeAndre Jordan conversation, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

11:38 a.m. — We've got action between the Pistons and Pelicans, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

11:13 a.m. — TRADE: The Bulls are sending Jameer Nelson to the Pistons in exchange for Willie Reed, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. Nelson will give Detroit a veteran presence and some much-needed help in the backcourt.

10:50 a.m. — Multiple NBA teams are bailing on the trade game, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski . It looks like much of the league will be conservative ahead of the deadline and target the buyout market instead.

10:28 a.m. — The Lakers are using Larry Nance Jr. as a "sweetener" in deals involving Jordan Clarkson, according to The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor . Lakers forward Julius Randle has also been thrown out in trade talks, but it's unlikely any team hands over a first-round pick for him considering Randle will become a restricted free agent this summer.

9:55 a.m. — Would the Spurs be willing to pay the price for Avery Bradley? This seems like a lot to give up. The latest from Marc Stein of The New York Times ...

9:25 a.m. — The Cavs remain in pursuit of DeAndre Jordan, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski , but another team could join a potential trade.
