The race for Sixth Man of the Year has seen a lot of changes since we last looked at the odds before the All-Star break in February. At the time, Russell Westbrook was considered the favorite (+115) thanks to his stat-stuffing ways off the bench for the Lakers. However, the veteran point guard was traded from the Lakers to the Jazz at the trade deadline and was bought out before latching on with the Clippers.

Westbrook's change of scenery and subsequent new role in L.A. have all but killed his chances for the award and opened the door for Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley (-275), who is currently the favorite, and Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon (+275). Brogdon had the second-best odds (+175) in February, but Quickley was a long shot to win the award at +12500.

Below, we'll look at the latest odds from BetMGM before breaking down the paths for Quickley and Brogdon to potentially win their first Sixth Man of the Year awards.

Immanuel Quickley, Knicks (-275). Quickley went from an afterthought to a frontrunner for the Sixth Man of the Year thanks to an impressive stretch in the second half of the season. In the past 12 games, the former first-round pick has scored 17.8 points on 51.3 percent shooting from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. Over that stretch, he only started in two games, helping the Knicks to a 10-2 record.

For the season, Quickley is averaging 14.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He's also shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc. While Quickley's shooting percentages are comparable to last year's Sixth Man of the Year winner Tyler Herro (43.7 FG% and 37.2 3pt%), Herro was the better all-around player (20.2 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 4.3 APG). Nevertheless, Quickley has brought a noticeable spark off the bench for a Knicks team that is 11 games over .500 and the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Malcolm Brogdon, Celtics (+200). Plenty of bettors still believe Brogdon can win the Sixth Man of the Year award over Quickley. According to BetMGM Sportsbook Insights, Brogdon is receiving the highest ticket percentage (16.6) and the highest handle percentage (42.0) for the award. The veteran combo guard is averaging 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game this season.

Brogdon is shooting better than Quickley, posting a 48.4-percent mark from the field and a 44.7-percent mark from three-point range, but he hasn't been quite as impressive in the second half during the second half of the season. Over the past 13 games, Brogdon is averaging 14.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Nevertheless, the veteran guard can still make up ground on Quickley, as the Celtics' have a couple of important, nationally televised games left, including Thursday's showdown against the Bucks and Tuesday's matchup against Philadelphia.

2023 NBA Sixth Man of the Year Betting Advice

Even though Brogdon is getting a ton of action for Sixth Man of the Year, Quickley is still in a great spot. He has the momentum, and the narrative is in his favor in terms of importance to his team. That said, it's tough to bet on him at his current odds. Ideally, you'd wait until he drops to plus money, so watch Brogdon closely. Perhaps counterintuitively, the best time to bet on Quickley might be after Brogdon has a good game. That will likely affect the odds, but we ultimately think Quickley will still win the award.
