Derrick Rose enjoys Chicago return, Knicks look like team with playoff potential image

Derrick Rose got a little bit of redemption Friday night.

His new team, the Knicks beat his former squad, the Bulls, 117-104 in his debut as a visitor in his hometown. The 2011 NBA MVP had his best game of the year.

Rose scored 15 points and added 11 assists and seven rebounds.

He wasn't the only former Bull who thrived. Joakim Noah had 16 points and nine rebounds after going scoreless the night before.

The Bulls paid tribute to the pair with a video during the game, but that didn't stop fans from booing Rose.

However he may have felt about his reception, Rose downplayed the back stories of coming back to play at home and against his old team.

"It was just fun man. I'm a competitor, I compete," Rose told ESPN after the game.

It was a big night for the Knicks basketball-wise. Kristaps Porzingis (27 points) and Carmelo Anthony (25 points) were able to score, and Rose had a big helping hand, surpassing his season assist total (10) in a single game.

"When I drive a lot of people are open, I've got to make the right decision," Rose said.

If he keeps doing that, the Knicks may be able to finally get back into the playoff picture.

Stud of the Night

Suns guard Devin Booker torched the Pelicans, scoring 38 points and forcing overtime as the Suns won 112-111. The Pelicans dropped to 0-6 to start the season.

Dud of the night

New Bulls point guard Rajon Rondo let Rose get the best of him Friday night. Rondo scored just four points on 2-for-10 shooting and had just five assists.

Tweet of the night

Larry Nance Jr. uses David West as a launching pad as the young Lakers jump out to an early lead on the Warriors. As if he needed one.

Looking ahead

Timberwolves (1-3) at Thunder (4-1), 6 p.m. ET — The Thunder will look to rebound from their embarrassing loss Thursday to the Warriors against a young, exciting Timberwolves team led by Karl-Anthony Towns, who is averaging 19.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in his sophomore campaign.
