The NBA conceded its referees' missed the foul on Nets player Jarrett Allen in the final seconds of the team's Game 4 matchup against the 76ers, but it's too little, too late.
In the NBA's Last Two Minute Report (via ESPN), it was ruled that Sixers forward Tobias Harris grabbed at Allen in the waning seconds, which stopped him from being able to release the ball.
A foul wasn't called, but if it was, Allen would have had the chance for two free throws, which could have tied the game.
Instead, the 76ers had time to converge on him and Allen eventually turned the ball over. The 76ers won that game, 112-108, and took a 3-1 lead in the series.
"So the big point of emphasis this year was the wrapping, wrapping the player when he rolls to the rim," Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said after Saturday's game. "Judge for yourself if you watch the clip, but there was a clear wrap by Tobias Harris on the roll.
"I am just disappointed. That was a point of emphasis on day one at the coaches' meetings — that they were going to emphasize that at the beginning of the game, the end of the game and all season. So how that all of a sudden doesn't become a foul on the wrap, I don't understand that."
The league also admitted it missed a call on Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who should have been penalized for carrying with 1:45 left in the game.
Game 4 was particularly rough on the teams, with a brawl breaking out after Joel Embiid swatted hard at Allen, which prompted Jared Dudley to shove Embiid. Jimmy Butler entered the fray to defend Embiid, which resulted in a shoving match that also involved Ben Simmons.
Both Butler and Dudley were ejected, and Embiid received a Flagrant 1 foul for his role in the scrum. As a result, Butler received a $15,000 fine and Dudley was hit with a $25,000 fine.
Nets general manager Sean Marks reportedly was infuriated that Embiid didn't receive a Flagrant 2 foul, which prompted him to burst into the referees' locker room after the game.
That resulted in Marks receiving a $25,000 fine and being suspended without pay for Game 5 of the series.
