The NBA had already named this season's Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player, Sixth Man of the Year, Clutch Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

The only award remaining was the headliner: Most Valuable Player.

For the second season in a row, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic were the three finalists for the award. Last season, Jokic was named MVP over Antetokounmpo and Embiid, but this time around, it was Embiid who captured the trophy.

Who won NBA MVP 2023?

On Tuesday night, the "NBA on TNT" crew announced that Joel Embiid won the 2022-23 NBA MVP award.

"It's been a long time coming, a lot of hard work," Embiid said. "I've been through a lot. I'm not just talking about basketball. ... It feels good. I don't know what to say. It's amazing."
