NBA Draft 2019: Virginia's Kyle Guy says 'there wasn't much else' to prove in college image

Kyle Guy is confident he can make a place for himself in the NBA.

The former Virginia guard said Monday following a workout with the Kings he felt he did everything he needed to in college. This assured him he should pursue his dream of playing professionally now, rather than later.

"Obviously you want to ride the high of winning at the pinnacle of college basketball," Guy told reporters. "At the same time I felt there wasn't much else I could prove at that level. I've carried a chip on my shoulder since I was a young kid because I've had to re-prove myself at every level."

Guy led the Cavaliers in scoring in 2018-19, averaging 15.4 points per game en route to a 35-3 season, which was topped off by a national championship. Despite his success, there was speculation that he might return to college for his senior season instead of entering the 2019 draft.

"I've said it at every media interview. I'm a guy who has to skydive with no parachute. I can't have one foot in and one foot out," Guy said. "After talking to my family I decided that (entering the draft) was the best decision."

Sacramento has two second-round picks in the draft — one of which is the very last selection. Either could be used on Guy if he's still available, making him a part of one of the NBA's more promising young franchises — featuring the likes of De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Marvin Bagley and others.

"It's been fun. I just try to cherish every moment," Guy said.

The NBA Draft is set to take place Thursday, June 20 at the Barclays Center.
