The Lakers kicked off the post-Kobe Bryant era by selecting the player they hope will replace him.

LA selected former Duke forward Brandon Ingram second overall in Thursday's NBA Draft after the 76ers took LSU forward Ben Simmons No. 1.

The 6-9 forward from Kinston, N.C., averaged 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.1 steals per game and shot 41 percent from the 3-point line in his only season with the Blue Devils.

He joins a Lakers team coming off a franchise-worst 17-65 record last season. He will be part of a rebuilding effort that includes new coach Luke Walton and guard D’Angelo Russell, last year’s second overall pick.
