In Forbes magazine's latest ranking of the NBA's most valuable franchises, a pair of heavyweight markets reign supreme.

The Lakers and the Knicks — worth $2.6 billion and $2.5 billion, respectively — head the list for 2015, but the league as a whole is booming financially.

According to Forbes, the average NBA team is now worth $1.1 billion, an increase of 74 percent from last year's valuation and the biggest one-year gain since Forbes began valuing teams in 1998.

The Bulls ($2 billion), Celtics ($1.7 billion) and Clippers ($1.6 billion) make up the rest of the top five.

Forbes' Kurt Badenhausen attributes the massive growth in team values in large part to the NBA's new national media deals with Disney (ESPN/ABC) and Time Warner (TNT) that are worth $930 million annually, almost three times as much as the league's current deals.

Skyrocketing franchise values also figure to be good news for owners looking to sell. Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer bought the Clippers for $2 billion last June, and the Hawks and Nets are currently on the market.
