Michael Jordan was asked at his basketball camp who should star in "Space Jam 2" - because what else would campers want to know?

Jordan's choice of Blake Griffin is a pretty transparent plug for a Jordan Brand athlete. LeBron James is the clear-cut best fit for "Space Jam 2."

It has to be a bigger name than Griffin, with all due respect to the Clippers star. As an aside, it probably should not be someone who has recently been in the news for bludgeoning a team staff member .

Griffin is a personable, funny guy who could be one of the Monstars or involved some other way in the "Space Jam" sequel (if a sequel needs to be made at all, which ... let's not start that). Others we'd like to see include Russell Westbrook (clear-cut fit for the Monstars), James Harden (imagine the beard in animation), Isaiah Thomas (replacing Muggsy Bogues) and Anthony Davis (the unibrow!).

Westbrook's the only Jordan Brand player in that bunch, though the Nike offshoot also is endorsed by Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard and Kemba Walker. Kawhi Leonard could be in the movie and not say a word the entire time. We'd be fine with that.

But LeBron has to be the star. Jordan doesn't like overly praising the players challenging him at the top of the NBA supremacy charts, and he knows how much James wants to take him down, as chronicled recently by Sports Illustrated . So Jordan probably wanted to avoid patting the Nike star's ego, in addition to lifting up his own guy.

Then again, maybe this is just the equivalent of taking Adam Morrison ahead of Brandon Roy, or Kwame Brown over Pau Gasol.
