Two teams on short winning streaks square off Tuesday in a match between the Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies. The Mavericks won four of their past five games, including three consecutive games, while the Grizzlies won three of their past four, including back-to-back road West Coast matchups against the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.

Dallas' guard Kyrie Irving has been on a tear during the team's recent successful stretch: He's averaged 29.3 points over the past three games, including a crucial three-pointer with two minutes left in the Maverick's win over the Minnesota Timberwolves to help Dallas secure the win. Luka Doncic has been no slouch, either, with 75 total points over the past two games and averaging 43 points per game over Dallas' past five games.

Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. has led Memhpis' recent surge. He score 24, 31 and 28 points in the team's past three games and grabbed 23 total rebounds over that stretch. Guards Desmond Bane and Marcus Smart have averaged 23.25 points and 22.75 points, respectively, over the past four games for Memphis.

The biggest news for the Grizzlies is guard Ja Morant, who will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a labrum tear in his shoulder, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. He missed Sunday's win over the Suns because of right shoulder soreness after he suffered that injury late in the Friday night win over the Lakers. Now, the Grizzlies will roll with Bane and Smart as their lead guards.

This is the fourth time both sides have faced each other this season. Dallas won the first game and the most recent one of Dec. 11, 2024, while Memphis last won on Dec. 1.

The Grizzlies have a lot of ground to make up this year after losing 19 of their first 25 games. Memphis ended the calendar yea with three consecutive losses before their recent 2024 resurgence. The Mavericks remain one of the better teams in the Western Conference despite poor stretches at the end of the calendar year. But at 22-15, they're very much in the thick of the Western Conference.
