The Grizzlies announced Tuesday that center Marc Gasol underwent successful surgery on his broken right foot Saturday and will miss the remainder of the season.
“It is frustrating to not be on the court with my teammates at this time,” Gasol said in a team release, “but I understand that the focus of this process is on long-term health and stability. I look forward to the road ahead and a full and successful recovery.”

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that sources within the team are not concerned about the long-term effects of such an injury.
Gasol suffered the injury Feb. 8 against the Trail Blazers. Before his injury, Gasol was averaging 16.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
With a 32-23 record, good enough for fifth place in the Western Conference, the Grizzlies will ride out the rest of the season with Brandan Wright, JaMychal Green, and newly acquired Chris Andersen at the center position.
