Magic reach deal with Frank Vogel to coach, report says image

The Magic have their man after coming to terms with former Pacers head coach Frank Vogel, the Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday.

Vogel will take over an improving team left behind by Scott Skiles, who stepped down from his position earlier this month after leading the Magic to a 35-47 record in his only season — a 10-game improvement from the 2014-15 campaign.

Vogel, 42, also had success this season leading the Pacers to the playoffs for the fifth time in six years. However, Pacers president Larry Bird felt his message had gone stale in Indianapolis and decide to go in a new direction. Vogel posted a 431-250 record in the regular season in five-plus years with the Pacers, including consecutive trips to the Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and 2014.

Orlando hasn't made the playoffs since the 2011-12 season, when Stan Van Gundy was the coach.
