Ah, the student has become the master.
Near the end of the third quarter of Tuesday's Game 2 between the Mavericks and Clippers, Dallas star Luka Doncic took perhaps the most preposterous shot of his NBA career. With just over 30 seconds left in the period, the 22-year-old trotted across the half-court line, crossed over from right to left and tossed up a one-legged 3-pointer. Bang.

No, seriously — the dude launched an off-balance, one-legged bomb with Los Angeles guard Rajon Rondo right in his grill, and he swished it. Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki, who played alongside Doncic in 2018-19 and was in attendance at the Staples Center for Game 2, could be seen smiling in the crowd after watching Doncic do his own version of Nowitzki's signature shot. (He had a mask on, but you know he was definitely smiling.)

That was just one of many highlights for Doncic, who led the Mavericks with 39 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a 127-121 win over the Clippers. Doncic took a moment to celebrate with Nowitzki after the victory, but he knows the job isn't done just because Dallas holds a 2-0 series lead.

"We gotta keep going at this," Doncic told NBA TV's Dennis Scott during his postgame interview. "It's not over. It's 2-0. A lot can happen still."
That's true. A lot of things could happen as this first-round series progresses — you know, like Doncic taking even more difficult shots and adding to his absolutely ridiculous playoff game log.

Can Nowitzki make up another shot for Doncic to try? Start experimenting, Dirk.
