Lonzo Ball apparently wanted to go about his recovery from a January ankle injury differently than the Lakers did.
According to The Athletic, Ball nearly had surgery on his injured left ankle in February at the urging of his father LaVar Ball and former business partner Alan Foster.
Ball flew to Ohio in February for the procedure, but according to The Athletic, the team didn't find out about the possibility of him going under the knife until he told general manager Rob Pelinka when he was already there.
The Ball family had previously worked with the doctor who would have done the procedure as he had already operated on Lonzo's brother LiAngelo.
Pelinka had to convince Ball not to undergo the surgery and brought him back to Los Angeles to continue his rehab from the ankle injury he suffered in a January game against the Rockets.
The 21-year-old would not play again in 2019 after suffering the injury and the Lakers closed out the season 12-23 with Ball on the shelf.
Ball has since cut ties with Foster and is currently suing him for $2 million in damages after accusing him of fraud.
Lakers president Magic Johnson stepped down on Tuesday from his role, citing his desire to be himself again rather than the man running Los Angeles' organization.
There has been speculation a reason for Johnson catching much of the organization off guard with his decision came down to dealing with drama on and off the court.
This would definitely qualify as drama.
Johnson also alluded to the fact he wanted to fire coach Luke Walton but didn't want to do it because owner Jeanie Buss supported him and he considers Buss a sister.
“I don’t want to put her in the middle of us, even though she said, ‘Hey, you can do what you want to do,’“ Johnson said. “I know she has great love for (Walton) and great love for me.”
The Lakers announced Friday afternoon they have parted ways with Walton.
