MOCK DRAFT: Suns stay close to home with No. 1 pick
Ball held a pre-draft workout in front of several NBA scouts last week at the Professional Basketball Combine at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
The 19-year-old left UCLA in December without playing a single game. Ball's father, LaVar, removed him from the school after he had been suspended indefinitely for a shoplifting incident during a team trip to China.
LiAngelo and his 16-year-old brother, LaMelo, then traveled overseas to play professionally with Lithuanian team Vytautas Prienu. LiAngelo averaged 12.6 points with BC Vytautas before leaving the team due to a dispute between LaVar and the organization.
Despite Ball's efforts to connect with a team ahead of the 2018 NBA Draft, it's highly unlikely he will be selected in the first or second round. ESPN's Jeff Goodman, who has regularly covered the Ball brothers both in the U.S. and abroad, offered his assessment during a recent appearance on "SportsCenter."
"Ultimately NBA people feel that, again, he shoots the ball well. He has good size. But he cannot put the ball on the floor, and he doesn't defend," Goodman said. "Not a great athlete, and then you also have the LaVar factor that comes into play. Most NBA people that I've spoken to feel that he will have a pretty good career over in Europe, but he is not an NBA player, will not be drafted this year."
