LeBron James says most 'valuable' player not necessarily the best image

Stephen Curry’s second MVP award has been weighed in on by a lot of people since Tuesday morning's announcement.

LeBron James, who finished third in voting behind Curry and Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard, says he thinks Curry is “definitely deserving” of the award. But he didn't say "MVP" means "best in the league."

"I think sometimes the word 'valuable' or best player of the year you can have different results," James said via ESPN. "You know, that's not taking anything from anyone that's ever won the award."

Still, James didn’t debate Curry’s claim to the award this season.

"Look at Steph's numbers," the James said. "He averaged 30, he led the league in steals, he was 90-50-40 (shooting percentages from the free throw line, field and beyond the 3-point line) and they won 73 (games). So, I don't — do you have any debate over that, really, when it comes to that award? But when you talk about most valuable, then you can have a different conversation. So, take nothing away from him, he's definitely deserving of that award, for sure."

Curry became the 11th player in NBA history to win consecutive MVPs. James knows a little something about the award — he’s won it four times since entering the league in 2003, including back-to-back years in 2012 and 2013.
