LeBron James is one of several Cavaliers players who won't stay at a Donald Trump-branded hotel during their trip to New York City this week, general manager David Griffin confirmed Monday.

As first reported by ESPN.com, James and some of his teammates were excused from staying at the Trump SoHo hotel, which bears the name of President-elect Trump under a licensing agreement with the billionaire real estate mogul's company. The rest of the Cavaliers are scheduled to remain at the 46-story luxury building, as planned through their travel contract.

Griffin told The Associated Press that James is part of a "group that wants to be together elsewhere" when Cleveland plays the Knicks on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.

James publicly endorsed Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and introduced her at a campaign rally in Ohio. He has spoken out against Trump on numerous occasions, and called his election victory "very difficult."

Last month, ESPN reported at least three NBA teams severed their agreements to stay at Trump hotels on road trips leading into this season.

The Cavaliers were not named as one of those teams.
