Under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden, the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks put on a show as the purple and gold secured a 129-123 victory in an overtime thriller.

LeBron James led the charge, recording his first triple-double of the season with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists, rewriting the record books in the process as he climbed past Mark Jackson and Steve Nash to now sit fourth all-time in assists. He is also now just 89 points away from breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time scoring record.

Anthony Davis added 27 points and nine rebounds, while Russell Westbrook finished with 17 points, eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals off the bench as the Lakers improve to 24-28 on the season. 

Jalen Brunson was the star man for New York with a game-high 37 points, six assists, and two rebounds.

10:20 p.m. — That's a wrap from MSG! LeBron's 28-point triple-double and 27 points from Anthony Davis gives them a thrilling OT win. 

10:17 p.m. — With his 10th rebound of the night, LeBron James now has a triple-double — his first of the season. 

10:16 p.m. — Russell Westbrook goes BANG and banks in the corner three to cap a 7-0 run.

10:13 p.m. — Hachimura gets a fingertip to Brunson's shot, which was called for a goaltend. The officials reviewed the play and reversed the call to give the Lakers the ball with a 123-118 lead. 

10:08 p.m. — The Lakers have put the clamps on in overtime, getting some key defensive stops in the halfcourt. Do the Knicks have an answer?

10:06 p.m. — Dennis Schroder connects on the corner triple to put the Lakers in front 121-118.

Fourth quarter: Lakers 114, Knicks 114

10:02 p.m. — Julius Randle has his shot blocked at the buzzer and we're heading to overtime!

9:58 p.m. — Brunson has been the man down the stretch for the Lakers. He makes another big play, this time on defense, taking the charge on Anthony Davis to give the Knicks the ball with 4.5 seconds to go.

The Knicks guard makes big back-to-back plays down the stretch to tie things up at 114-114! We've got a big finish coming up in The Garden.

9:52 p.m. — The Knicks have now missed their last five shots as the Lakers seize control of the contest with a LeBron 3-pointer to extend their lead to 114-108. Timeout Knicks.

9:49 p.m. — Despite a strong defensive sequence from the Lakers, the Knicks find their way to the basket with a Hartenstein jam to cut the deficit to just two points with 3:20 remaining. Lakers lead 110-108.

9:29 p.m. — And now LeBron clears Steve Nash for fourth all-time in assists with a dime to Thomas Bryant.

9:28 p.m. — LeBron whips the dime to Brown Jr. in the quarter to move clear of Marck Jackson for fifth all-time in assists. 

9:25 p.m. — Plenty of stars in the house at MSG tonight!

End of third quarter: Lakers 86, Knicks 83

9:19 p.m. — LeBron spins into the lane and catches Brunson with an elbow to the face. The offensive foul is on LeBron and Brunson will shoot two free throws. Lakers lead 86-83.

9:15 pm. — The Knicks starters are shooting 38 percent from the field, while the bench is connecting on 60 percent from the field. 

9:08 p.m. — LeBron James has now tied Mark Jackson for fifth all-time in assists, bringing up his 10,334th career dime. 

9:00 p.m. — Grimes' first step is lightning!

8:58 p.m. — Anthony Davis is giving the Knicks a headache in the paint with his activity on the glass. He gets the tough fadeaway to go, with a chance for one more at the line. 

8:54 p.m. — Hachimura is having himself a game. He's up to 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting — the most he's scored in a Laker uniform. 

8:50 p.m. — Big hustle play from Hachimura. He gets a hand on the loose ball to give the Lakers an extra possession and knocks down the corner triple seconds later. Lakers back in front 55-53 early in the third.

Half-time: Knicks 53, Lakers 52

It's been a back-and-forth battle at MSG as the Knicks take a 53-52 lead into the break. They've got three players in double figured led by Jalen Brunson's 16 points, while Immanuel Quickley has 13 and Isaiah Hartenstein 10.

Rui Hachimura leads LA with 12 points, while Anthony Davis has 11 and Russel Westbrook 10 off the bench. 

LeBron James has nine points and five assists. He needs just two dimes to crack the top 5 all-time.

8:32 p.m. — Dennis Schroder with the most casual half-court heave to end the quarter and cut the deficit to just one point. 

8:29 p.m. — The turnovers are starting to hurt the Lakers as the Knicks second unit 

8:22 p.m. — Westbrook attacks the rim and scores over Haretnstein to break the two-minute scoring drought for LA.

8:12 p.m. — It's been a completely different story for the Lakers in Q2 after finding success early in the game in transition and in the paint — instead settling for 3-pointers.

8:07 p.m. — The Lakers are still in search of their first field goal of the second quarter, going 0-of-7 to start as the Knicks tie things up at 31-31 with 8:48 remaining.

8:00 p.m. — BRUNSON!!!!

The Knicks guard gets the triple to go at the buzzer to cut the Lakers' lead to just five points.

7:55 p.m. — Here come the Knicks! Their three-guard lineup of Grimes, Brunson, and Barrett has injected some much-needed pace into the game as they cut the deficit to just two points. 

7:53 p.m. — Randle buries the corner three to end the scoring drought for New York. Lakers lead 15-8.

7:48 p.m. — The Knicks just can't buy a bucket tonight, going 2-of-16 from the field to start the game. 

7:45 p.m. — That's two early fouls for RJ Barrett. He heads to the bench with 5:28 to go.

7:39 p.m. — LeBron takes it to the rim with authority and finishes through contact, converting the and-1 to make it a 7-0 run. Lakers lead 9-3, with 8:38 remaining in Q1.
