Irving, 23, suffered a broken left knee cap in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Warriors in June. He originally was given a three- to four-month recovery timeline, but the severity of the injury kept him out longer.
The Cavaliers sit at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 17-7 record.
