Though it's been whispered for months, Kobe Bryant’s retirement announcement Sunday seemed to come out of nowhere, even shocking his own coach.
Lakers coach Byron Scott said he was shocked when Bryant told him Saturday night he would be hanging up his sneakers following the 2015-16 season.

"Sad. We talked about it last night. I told him it kind of shocked me when he told me," Scott said, via CBS Sports. "I think he still loves this game. He still has a passion for it. He's still a competitive young man."
Shortly after the announcement, reactions came pouring in from around the NBA, including NBA commissioner Adam Silver.
