Two crosstown foes headed in opposite directions take centerstage when the Knicks venture to Brooklyn for a clash with the Nets on Tuesday.
The Knicks have won nine of their last eleven games since acquiring forward O.G. Anunoby from Toronto. Anunoby has solidified New York’s defense while emerging as the perfect compliment to point guard Jalen Brunson and forward Julius Randle.
Brunson, too, is flourishing. He is averaging 33 points in three games since returning from a calf injury, which sidelined him for two contests. In Saturday’s convincing win over the Raptors, Brunson steered the ship, pouring in a game-high 38 points and adding nine assists.
The Nets, meanwhile, have dropped 15 of their last 19 games since a respectable 13-10 start. Their latest loss came Sunday against the Clippers, when Los Angeles outscored Brooklyn 41-15 in the fourth quarter and closed the game on a 22-0 run.
Forward Mikal Bridges and guard Cam Thomas have been two reliable bright spots amid the slump. Bridges is averaging a career-best 21.3 points per game, while the 22-year-old Thomas is averaging a career-high 20.6 points per game in his third year in the league.
It’s the second of four matchups between the two sides this season. They previously met on December 20 in Brooklyn, a game that the Knicks won, 121-102.
