The Cavaliers' J.R. Smith will need surgery on his right thumb, injured in Tuesday's overtime win against the Bucks, and is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks, ESPN.com reported Wednesday.
Smith left the game in the first half with a right thumb injury, and the team said X-rays taken at the Bucks' arena were inconclusive.

The small forward was scheduled to undergo further testing Wednesday in Cleveland, according to the team. Those tests apparently showed the extent of the damage would require the surgery. Smith, who signed a four-year, $57 million contract in October, already has missed five games because of to injuries.
