Joel Embiid injury update: Sixers star (ankle) out vs. Pistons image

Joel Embiid will not play Saturday versus the Pistons, the team announced Saturday.

The 76ers star is suffering from a sprained right ankle during Wednesday's win over the Celtics, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Mike Scott is also listed as probable when Philadelphia tips off in Detroit at 7 p.m. ET.

Embiid said he experienced discomfort in his ankle after the team's season opener against Boston.

The two-time All-Star did not participate in practice Friday and was active for a portion of Saturday morning’s shootaround in Detroit. After he told the team's medical staff that he would be unable to play Saturday, the Inquirer added.

Al Horford will start in Embiid’s place at center.
