Utah Jazz superstar Lauri Markkanen is unlikely to sign an extension with the team, per multiple sources. By not signing, Markkanen gets more say in his future, with either a bigger contract with the Jazz, or he can go off to find greener pastures.

“According to The Athletic’s Tony Jones, it’s unlikely that Markkanen will sign the new deal by Tuesday. Which makes sense. The 27-year-old Markkanen knows he’s going to get major money either now or next summer. By not signing this week, Markkanen essentially gains a bit of control over his future.”

The former All-Star and Most Improved Player averaged 23 points, eight rebounds, and two assists this past season, making him a valued player for any team.

Teams that have made a lot of noise to trade for him include the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs. Possible teams that may try to acquire him include the LA Lakers, the LA Clippers, the OKC Thunder, and the Dallas Mavericks.
