Ja Morant injury update: Grizzlies star guard sidelined with 'tweaked knee' image

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the most surprising success stories of the 2021-22 NBA season.

The All-Star guard has exploded onto the scene, playing like an MVP candidate to launch the Grizzlies toward the top of the Western Conference. With averages of 27.6 points, 6.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, Morant has elevated his game to another level in his third season.

However, Morant has missed three of Memphis' last four games due to a knee ailment.

How long will the Grizzlies be without their superstar guard? Here's everything we know below.

What is Ja Morant's injury?

Morant suffered a knee sprain all the way back in November that forced him to miss 12 games. He recovered quicker than expected and when he returned to the floor, he picked up right where he left off prior to the injury.

Morant had been mostly available after that extended absence, only missing three of his team's next 39 games.

On March 15, he missed the Grizzlies' contest with a knee injury against the Indiana Pacers, which head coach Taylor Jenkins described as "a minor thing."

Morant has missed three of the team's last four games and will now miss time beyond that.

How long will Ja Morant be out?

On Thursday, March 24, coach Jenkins told the media Morant will be re-evaluated in two weeks due to a "tweaked knee."

That two-week timeline would mean Morant will be re-evaluated on April 7. At that point, the Grizzlies will only have two games remaining in the regular season.

Memphis currently sits in the No. 2 spot in the West with a two-game lead over the Golden State Warriors, who are also without their star guard in Stephen Curry.

Expect the Grizzlies to be cautious with their franchise player, aiming to get Morant healthy for Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs.

The Grizzlies have nine games remaining in the 2021-22 season, holding a two-game lead over the Warriors for the No. 2 seed in the West. Trailing the Phoenix Suns by nine games for first place, second is likely the highest Memphis can finish in the standings.
