Heat injury updates: Will Bam Adebayo, Goran Dragic play in Game 3 vs. Lakers? image

Will Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic return Sunday night and help the Heat avoid falling into a 3-0 hole against the Lakers?

The Heat starters missed Game 2 of the 2020 NBA Finals after leaving the series opener with injuries. Dragic suffered a torn plantar fascia in the first half of Game 1, and Adebayo is still dealing with the effects of a neck strain.

Adebayo, who made his first All-Star appearance this season, is integral to Miami's success on both ends of the floor. Dragic has been the Heat's second-leading scorer in these playoffs (19.9 points per game) behind only Jimmy Butler (21.1). If they are both out again, the Heat will need to put together a near-perfect performance in order to prevent the Lakers from essentially ending the series.

Here's the latest news on Adebayo and Dragic ahead of Game 3:

Bam Adebayo, Goran Dragic injury updates

UPDATE: Adebayo and Dragic have been ruled out for Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

ORIGINAL: Adebayo and Dragic are both listed as doubtful on the most recent Game 3 injury report, which was released at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. These are the same designations Adebayo and Dragic were given ahead of Game 2.

It appears Adebayo is closer to a return than Dragic, per Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press:

Heat rookie Tyler Herro took Dragic's spot in the Game 2 starting lineup, scoring 17 points in 43 minutes. Meyers Leonard replaced Adebayo at center, though he only logged nine total minutes and didn't play in the fourth quarter. Miami coach Erik Spoelstra could go a similar route in Game 3, but it's possible he gives the nod to Kelly Olynyk over Leonard after the veteran forward scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench in Game 2.

Regardless of who starts Sunday night, Butler must lead the way once again. The five-time All-Star totaled 25 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds in his last outing.

Lakers vs. Heat Game 3 injury report

Los Angeles has three players (Anthony Davis, Danny Green and LeBron James) listed on the Game 3 injury report, but each player is expected to suit up. Davis, Green and James have started every game of the Lakers' playoff run.

Team Player Status Reason
Lakers Anthony Davis Probable Right heel; right heel contusion
Lakers Danny Green Probable Left finger; volar plate injury, left ring finger
Lakers LeBron James Probable Right groin; sore right groin
Heat Bam Adebayo Doubtful Neck; strain
Heat Goran Dragic Doubtful Left foot; torn plantar fascia
