Kris Humphries, Olympic swimmer?

The idea may seem ridiculous now, but once upon a time the Hawks big man had faster swim times in six events than famous Olympians Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.

RIO 2016: Beautiful faces of the Olympics

The year was 1995, and both Humphries and Phelps were competitive swimmers at age 10. Surprisingly, Humphries was the fastest swimmer in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley, as shown by the Hawks' website.

Phelps, fresh off winning his 23rd gold medal and 28th overall in Rio, has won the 200 IM in four consecutive Olympics.

In total, Humphries registered top-10 times in nine events. Phelps? Only once, and Lochte in none.

Humphries said he got burned out of swimming at a young age and fell in love with basketball. Even so, to this day Humphries holds 12 age-bracket records in his home state of Minnesota.

If things had been different, we might have seen Humphries on the Olympic podium and hailed as one of the best swimmers of all time.
