Greece has a rich basketball history tracing back decades.
The country, despite traditionally being soccer-mad, was one of the original eight founding members of the International Basketball Federation.
While their most notable international victory came in 2006 when they defeated Team USA in the semi-finals of the 2006 FIBA World Championships, the national team, also known as "Ethniki" has actually won the prestigious EuroBasket on two occasions.
Their first win came in 1987 led by the iconic Nikos Galis, while in 2005 they defeated Germany in the final in Belgrade to claim their second EuroBasket gold medal.
Greece has also won one silver (1989) and two bronze medals (1949, 2009) at EuroBasket.
The Greeks will enter the tournament with a good mix of players with NBA and EuroLeague experience, as well as players who compete for one of Greece's top basketball teams.

Is Giannis Antetokounmpo playing at EuroBasket 2022?
This is the million-dollar question and yes, he most definitely is.
Antetokounmpo has always made it a point to represent his country whenever he's been able and healthy.
For the first time in many years, the Bucks' superstar hasn't had the added rigors of Olympic or World Cup basketball during the offseason and will lead Greece in the tournament, before heading back to America for the NBA preseason.
Despite being the biggest name in Greek basketball today, Antetokounmpo remains humble with the national team, understanding the nuances of international play where one superstar can't do it alone, and the best team prevails.
During media day availability prior to the Euros, Antetokounmpo stated he is willing to do whatever it takes to help Greece secure the gold.
"You can't adjust 11 people around me," he said. "I am not that type of guy. I have to adjust to everybody, I will do whatever my team needs, I will screen, I will play at the 5 if I have to."
