Giannis Antetokounmpo may be one of the most famous, well-known, basketball players on the planet. But he isn't the only Antetokounmpo that's played in the NBA.
The son of Nigerian immigrants born in Greece, Antetokounmpo's story is well known by now — starting with selling bootleg CDs on the streets of Athens to now having a Disney film about the family.
As Giannis' star rose, so did the spotlight on not only his brothers, but his mother and father, and now his wife and infant sons as well.
What does Antetokoumpo's family tree look like? Here's a breakdown of how many brothers have played in the NBA and who the rest of the Antetokounmpo family members are.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's brother: Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Thanasis is the most well-known of the Antetokounmpo brothers - or Antetokounbros, as they call themselves. He is the older brother of Giannis and the first of the brothers to be born in Athens.
Just like Giannis, he too began playing youth club basketball with the junior teams of Filathlitikos, in 2008. He worked his way up to the senior team.
After originally declaring for the 2013 NBA Draft, he withdrew from the draft on the day of the withdrawal deadline. He had originally entered the draft with his younger brother Giannis, who was eventually drafted 15th overall by the Bucks. When Giannis's name was called out, it was Thanasis who was by his side waving a Greek flag.
He had a one-season stint with the Delaware 76ers in the NBA G-League before finally being selected in the NBA Draft in 2014, taken in the second-round by the New York Knicks.
After bouncing back between the Knicks and their G-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, the NBA Knicks decided not to renew Thanasis' deal and he left for Europe where he played with Andorra and Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos before the Milwaukee Bucks signed him in July 2019.
He won a championship with the Bucks, alongside his brother, in 2021.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's brother: Kostas Antetokounmpo
Kostas is the younger brother of Thanasis and Giannis, and older brother to Alex (who we'll get to in a minute). Just like his two older siblings, Kostas played for Filathlikos in Athens.
He later made the move to the United States to play high school basketball in 2013 when Giannis was drafted by the Bucks. At Dominican High School, Kostas helped lead the team to the championship as a senior.
Kostas played university ball at the University of Dayton before declaring for the 2018 NBA draft. Just like Thanasis, Kostas was taken in the second-round of the draft (60th overall) by the Philadelphia 76ers and immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks. He signed a two-way deal and bounced back-and-forth between the NBA and the G-league in his rookie season.
He was waived by the Mavericks in 2019, and claimed by the Los Angeles Lakers with whom he would win an NBA title in 2020 — becoming not only the first Greek-born player to win an NBA title, but also the first of the Antetokounmpo brothers to do so as well.
He is currently playing with ASVEL Basket in the French league.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's brother: Alex Antetokounmpo
Alex, the youngest of the brothers that moved to America when Giannis was drafted, also played for Dominican High School in Wisconsin like his older brother Kostas.
Alex decided to forgo college and went to play professionally in Europe before declaring for the NBA draft in 2021. He went undrafted, but he signed with the Toronto Raptors G-League affiliate, Raptors 905, following Summer League.
After one season with Raptors 905, Alex was traded to the Wisconsin Herd, G League affiliate of the Bucks. Now, Giannis, Thanasis and Alex are all members of the Bucks organization.
The Wisconsin Herd has acquired the returning player rights to Alex Antetokounmpo and a second-round pick in the 2023 NBA G League Draft from the Raptors 905 in exchange for the returning player rights of Jalen Lecque.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's kids: Liam and Maverick
Giannis welcomed his first son Liam Charles Antetokounmpo, on Feb. 10, 2020.
In May 2021 the couple made the announcement that they were expecting a second child together.
”My son has taught me more about patience, perseverance and passion in these past 15 months than I have ever known. But most importantly he’s opened my eyes to my true potential. I’ve made it through sleepless nights, teething and the beginning of toddler tantrums, and at this point I feel invincible,” Antetokounmpo's wife Mariah Riddlesprigger wrote on Instagram. “Oh and I forgot to mention baby #2 is on the way and I’m in for even more life lessons! My kids are my biggest blessing and my greatest lesson!”
Baby Liam was famously in his dad's arms following the Bucks' Game 6 championship-clinching win in 2021.
Having been raised in a close knit family as a child, Giannis constantly points to the love he has for his family and what they mean to him.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's partner: Mariah Riddlesprigger
Giannis’ partner Mariah Riddlesprigger was a star athlete in her own right during college. She played volleyball at Rice University in Texas.
She and Giannis have been together since 2017 when they were first spotted at All-Star weekend in New Orleans.
Today she runs her own clothing line called 'Sincerely Mariah' and is always on-hand to support Giannis in all his big on-court moments, along with their two children.
Giannis Antetokounmpo's parents: Veronica and Charles Antetokounmpo
Giannis' was very close with his father Charles, himself a former professional soccer player back in Nigeria.
Unfortunately, Charles passed away from a heart attack while in Milwaukee in 2017. He was just 54 years old. The death came as a shock to Giannis and his family.
To this day, Giannis credits his father for instilling his work ethic into him.
“He put in you that ‘don’t-give-a-f—‘ mentality,” Giannis said to ESPN. “I feel like the toughness, I’ve always had it, but that ‘don’t-give-a-f—‘ mentality whether I win, lose, play good or play bad, I just go out there and chase it. Like, what’s the worst that can happen?”
Upon the release of his first Nike signature sneaker, Giannis also included the phrase "I am my father's legacy'" onto his shoes as a tribute to Charles.
Giannis' mother Veronica was also an athlete, having competed in high jump back in Nigeria.
Giannis called his mother his "hero" during his acceptance speech for the 2019 MVP award.
"If you have a good parent, they always see the future for you, and she saw the future in us," he said. "She always believed in us. She was always there for us [and] she's the foundation of this family."
