After losing the regular-season finale to the Rockets, coach George Karl has been fired, the Kings announced Thursday.
“After evaluating the team’s performance this season, I determined it was necessary to move forward with a new voice from the head coaching position,” Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Vlade Divac said.

“I have a great deal of respect and admiration for George and his accomplishments throughout his nearly 30 years in the NBA. On behalf of everyone in the Kings organization, I thank him for the contributions made during his time in Sacramento and wish him good fortune in the future.”
Karl, 64, compiled a 44-68 record in Sacramento after he took over for Tyrone Corbin as head coach during last season's All-Star break.
He will still receive the remaining $6.5 million guaranteed from his four-year contract.

In his 27 seasons as a head coach, he ranks fifth all-time with 1,175 victories.
As for Karl's replacement, the Kings will have a number of candidates to choose from. According to Yahoo Sports, Sacramento will have options in former Bulls and Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro, former Cavaliers coach David Blatt, former Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga and Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson.
