When the Mavericks need offense, they can still count on Dirk Nowitzki.
The veteran forward came up big Sunday with 40 points as the Mavs beat the Trail Blazers 132-120 in overtime. Nowitzki was at his best during the extra session, tallying eight points to help his team outscore Portland 19-7 in overtime.

The 37-year-old hit 16 of 26 shot attempts to become just the fourth player his age or older to score at least 40 points in a game in the past 50 years — joining Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone. Nowitzki also added eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.
It was a big win for the Mavericks, who sit in eighth place in the West at 34-36. The Trail Blazers fell to 36-34 but still maintain the No. 6 spot.
