How long is Devin Booker out? Calf injury timeline, return date, latest updates for Suns star image

Early in the 2023-24 season, the Suns seemingly can't catch a break.

Devin Booker, who hobbled into the season, has already dealt with various injuries that sidelined him for three of Phoenix's first four games. In his return to the floor, Booker sustained a calf injury that has kept him sidelined.

In addition to Booker's injury woes, Phoenix waited eight games for the debut of Bradley Beal, who was sidelined with a back injury to begin the season.

What is Booker's latest injury setback and how long will he be out of the lineup? Here are the latest updates.

What is Devin Booker's injury?

Booker is dealing with a strained right calf.

Before the Suns' visit to the Pistons on Nov. 5, head coach Frank Vogel told reporters that Booker underwent an MRI that revealed the injury. Booker sustained the injury on Nov. 2, when he played 35 minutes in a loss to the Spurs.

It's been an injury-riddled season for Booker, who entered the season with a toe injury and missed three games after spraining his ankle on opening night.

According to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic, the calf injury may be related to Booker's conditioning. Because of his prior injuries, Booker was unable to be a full participant in practices and may have sustained the calf injury as he had a full workload upon his return.

How long will Devin Booker be out?

While there was "optimism" that Booker could return for the Suns' matchup against the Lakers on Friday, Nov. 10, he was ruled out for that game and their matchup with the Thunder on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Ahead of Phoenix's meeting with Minnesota on Wednesday, Nov. 15, the team announced that Booker had been upgraded to probably, bringing him one step closer to sharing the floor with Beal and Kevin Durant for the first time during the regular season.

During his pregame availability in Detroit on Nov. 5, Vogel added that "[Booker's] trying to get back as quickly as possible" but the team will take a cautious approach given the piling list of injuries that he has dealt with in the first month of the season.

Even through two injuries, Booker has averaged 31.5 points and 10.5 assists over the two games he has played this season.
