Trade deadline day is one of the most stressful on the NBA calendar for players, and the 2024 edition is no exception.
While few big-name players moved ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, but plenty of players switched places. And for a moment, Nets point guard Dennis Smith Jr. thought he was one of them.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the former lottery pick would be sent to the Raptors as part of a deal to bring Dennis Schroder to Brooklyn.

But Wojnarowski's original post was incorrect. He appears to have added an extra Dennis to the deal.

Wojnarowski deleted his post and sent an updated with the correct details: The Nets acquired Dennis Schroder and Thad Young, and the Raptors received Spencer Dinwiddie.

That said, it appeared that Smith was stressed about a potential move. He posted a simple reaction meme to X (formerly Twitter) to express his feelings about Wojnarowski's mistake.

Smith, 26, has already played for six NBA teams during his career. So it's easy to understand why he might not be happy to be traded once again.
After all, it appears that Smith has carved out a nice role for himself as a backup point guard with the Nets. He is averaging 7.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 19.9 minutes per game, so it could have been detrimental for him to be traded just as he was getting comfortable in Brooklyn.

But Smith wasn't actually traded, and it appears that he is on track to remain in Brooklyn. He just has to survive the final stages of the trade deadline to lock in his roster spot for the rest of the 2023-24 season.
