Lue has yet to sign a new deal with the Cavaliers since being promoted in January, according to ESPN.

The 38-year-old Lue has a verbal agreement with team management, according to the report. That agreement is expected to pay him $3 million prorated this season, $3 million next year and $3.5 million in 2017-18 under a team option. That would put Lue — who is currently the league’s highest paid assistant — in the bottom half of head coach salaries in the league.

Lue took over the team after David Blatt was fired in late January despite leading the Cavs to an Eastern Conference-best 30-11 record through the first half of the season.
Lue went 27-14 in the regular season, guiding the team to a Central Division title and the top seed in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs then swept the Pistons in the first round of the playoffs. They will meet the Hawks in the second round.
