The Boston Celtics may waive their newest acquisition, Lonnie Walker IV, after training camp, per Shams Charania. This comes after the C’s signed Walker to a one-year deal almost a week ago.

Walker averaged 9.7 points, two rebounds, and one assist per game in 58 games for the Brooklyn Nets last season. He also shot 38% from beyond the arc, making him another reliable shooter to come off the bench for the Celtics.

Walker possibly getting waived wasn’t unforeseen. Walker signed an Exhibit 10 contract, meaning if he is cut after camp he will get a bonus, and be sent to Boston’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.

Walker would be a great bench piece for the Celtics, but their bench is already stacked with talent, and if Walker made it to the end of the bench he wouldn’t get much floor time. So it is honestly better for him to go to Maine, and come back up when there is an injury, so he can get that bonus from his contract.
