It's a mistake Isaiah Thomas probably has heard since he laced up his sneakers, and this week he heard it again.
On Wednesday, the Celtics guard was asked about the 1980s, "when his father Isiah played," by a journalist in Mexico City. The team is in Mexico's capital for a game against the Kings on Thursday.

Isaiah Thomas was named after the Pistons guard when his father, a Lakers fan, lost a bet. Being named after a Basketball Hall of Famer could be a distraction to some, but the younger Thomas doesn't seem affected by it.
The fifth-year guard is averaging 20.8 points and 6.2 assists for the surprising Celtics and has averaged 15.9 points on 43.9 percent shooting for his career.
Earlier this season, the 5-9 guard talked about his growth as a playmaker.
“Finding other players and getting other players going, it definitely gives you a different feeling,” Thomas told The Boston Globe last month. “It gets you going, seeing other players succeed and see the ball going through the hoop for other players. Once I do that, it’s even tougher for the defense to guard me.”
In that regard, he does slightly resemble the guy who used to play for Detroit.
