The first-place Boston Celtics renew their Eastern Conference with the Miami Heat on Thursday, Jan. 25.
Boston won back-to-back games in Texas against the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.
The Celtics finished 8-3 in a stretch of 11 games in 18 days and got two days off before facing Miami.
Jayson Tatum had a season-high 38 points and 11 rebounds against Dallas, marking his first 30-point effort since Jan. 10. He shot 5-of-5 from the line during the first quarter. Tatum also led the Celtics with three steals and he tied for the team-high with two blocks.
Jaylen Brown scored 35, while Jrue Holiday added 17 points for Boston.
On Sunday against Houston, Brown had the third career triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the116-107 victory.
Kristaps Porzingis missed the game against Dallas with right knee inflammation, a night after leading the Celtics with 32 points against the Rockets. The 7-foot-2 Latvian was traded from Dallas to Washington in 2022, but has yet to play against his former team.
After playing at Miami, the Celtics play seven consecutive games at the TD Garden.
The Heat are in the thick of the playoff race and have gotten a boost from the return of Jimmy Butler, who is averaging just over 21 points and 4.4 assists per game.
Miami also made a splash in the trade market by reportedly acquiring Terry Rozier from the Hornets for Kyle Lowry and a future first-round pick. Rozier is under contract through the 2025-26 season. Through 30 games with the Hornets this season, he is averaging 23.2 points, 6.6 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game.
Heat guard Kyle Lowry has been coming off the bench after some struggles where he is averaging 8.2 points and four assists on 42.6 percent shooting and 38.5 percent from three-point range.
On Monday, the Heat had a season-low point total in a 105-87 loss to the in-state rival, the Orlando Magic. Miami rookie forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. has been dealing with a groin injury.
