Social media is a great way to connect with others, especially when it comes to sports. Too often, though, it’s also a place where people can be extremely rude — to put it lightly — without any real-life consequence of significance.

One Cavaliers fan thought he could do that, and it just cost him his job.

The Twitter user, under the since-deleted handle @SoftCaramelKiss, went on a profanity-laced rant Wednesday directed at Stephen Curry’s sister, Sydel, and made a homophobic remark about Riley Curry, the 3-year-old daughter of the Warriors star.

Luckily, the internet is also a place where nothing dies. The tweet was reported to the author's employer, Holton Wise, a Cleveland real estate company, which later revealed the man had been dismissed.

The company's president also responded with an open letter apologizing to the Curry family.

Just the latest case of when keeping it real on the internet goes wrong.
