It appears Jim Boylen will be staying in Chicago beyond just next season.

The Bulls and Boylen agreed to a multi-year contact extension on Friday, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Details of the extension have not officially been released.

The two sides had previously agreed to a contract in January that raised Boylen's salary for the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign and through the following season, a surefire indication that the Bulls intended to keep their coach, at least for the short term. Boylen initially took over as the Bulls' interim coach following the firing of Fred Hoiberg. Hoiberg has since benn hired as the head coach of Nebraska.

It was a bit of a rocky start for Boylen as head coach. He was almost instantly at odds with his players over practice policies, which led to players contacting the NBAPA to complain. Bulls players also nearly decided to skip a practice before instead holding a players-only meeting.

Boylen and his players mended fences by the conclusion of the season, demonstrated by Zach LaVine paying his coach's fine for an ejection in March.

Boylen went 17-41 as Bulls' head coach last season. He was previously the head coach of the Utah Utes from 2007-2011 and has been an assistant for the Bulls, Spurs, Pacers and Michigan State.
