A Celtics team once thought to be the favorite in the Eastern Conference ended its season with a whimper Wednesday night. The Bucks sent Boston into the offseason with a 116-91 win at Fiserv Forum — and the score itself didn't properly illustrate Milwaukee's dominance.

Once the Game 5 buzzer went off, the Bucks' social media team didn't miss the opportunity to troll former Celtics great and current ESPN analyst Paul Pierce, who sincerely believed the second-round series was over following Boston's Game 1 win. After Pierce's bold proclamation, the Bucks won four straight to eliminate the Celtics.

In Pierce's defense, he wasn't the only member of the media with an extremely wrong Celtics take. One idiot thought Gordon Hayward's return would make Boston completely unguardable.

(It was me. I'm the idiot.)

The Celtics will now prepare for what could be a tumultuous summer. Star guard Kyrie Irving will be hitting free agency, and there have been rumors floating around for months about Boston's desire to pair him up with Anthony Davis. If team president Danny Ainge can pull that off, the Celtics will be a contender once again.

But maybe we should all hit pause before making definitive predictions next time, especially Pierce.
