Is Bronny James playing tonight? Latest updates on Lakers rookie's injury status for NBA Summer League game vs. Heat image

As the California Classic Summer League rolls on, the Lakers are back in action when they face the Heat on Wednesday.

LA is 0-2 through two Summer League contests, with losses coming to Sacramento and Golden State. In Saturday's Summer League opener against the Kings, No. 55 overall pick Bronny James finished with four points, two rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes of action. He was then held out of Sunday's game with knee soreness.

Given James' profile as the son — and teammate — of LeBron James, there will be plenty of eyes on the rookie as he continues his NBA journey in the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. That said, his status for the California finale is one to monitor.

Will James be in action for Wednesday's game against Miami? Here is the latest on his status for the game.

Is Bronny James playing tonight?

James "is expected" to play against the Heat, according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.

Lakers Summer League head coach Dane Johnson added more on James' absence Sunday, saying that the team is "taking it day-by-day, just being precautionary about it. The plan is for him to play (Wednesday)."

While his numbers did not jump off the page, James was aggressive in his first Summer League game, connecting on two of his nine field goal attempts. He earned a spot in LA's starting lineup alongside fellow rookie Dalton Knecht, Colin Castleton, Sean East II and Maxwell Lewis.

After Wednesday, LA will have a one-day layoff before getting back to the action in Las Vegas.
