"After 12 incredible years, it's come time for me to explore this world, this life, without my fuzzy red friend. In what's been an impossibly difficult choice to make, I've decided that June 30th will be my final day at the Chicago Bulls, where my heart will forever live," Anderson wrote on his Facebook page.

The Bulls said they did offer Anderson a contract, but he decided to turn it down.

Benny the Bull, who was named the league's 2015 Mascot of the Year, was a Bulls ambassador both on and off the court. He was also known for his pranks and antics during games.
