The stage is set for one of the more highly anticipated games of the 2022-23 season.

Nine months after the Ben Simmons saga in Philadelphia ended with the trade that sent him to Brooklyn, the former No. 1 overall pick is back in the City of Brotherly Love to face his old team.

Despite the fanfare in the lead-up, this isn't the first time Simmons and the Nets have been in Philadelphia since the trade. On March 10, 2022, an inactive Simmons was booed by Sixers fans as he cheered on the Nets' dominant performance from the sidelines.

Will Simmons be in action this time around? Here is the latest on his status for his return to Philly.

Is Ben Simmons playing vs. the 76ers tonight?

Simmons is not on the injury report for Nets vs. 76ers, making way for his much-anticipated return to the floor in Philadelphia. This would be Simmons' first appearance on the Wells Fargo Center floor since the Sixers' Game 7 loss to the Hawks in the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Ahead of the matchup, Simmons jokingly played coy about his emotions, saying "I'm ready to play — is there something going on?" before acknowledging that he knows what to expect from a raucous Philadelphia crowd.

As exciting as Simmons' return may be, the fact that the 76ers will be without Joel Embiid, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey takes some of the luster from the matchup.

Simmons enters Tuesday's game averaging 7.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists through 12 games but has been much more impressive as of late, scoring a season-high 22 points in Brooklyn's win over Memphis on Sunday.
