Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was faced with the tough decision of choosing an Olympic team, ultimately landing with Team USA.
Some questioned the selection of the USA over France and Cameroon, but one Team USA star believes they know the answer. Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is one of the most entertaining personalities on the roster, leading to a comedic reason why the 76ers superstar chose the USA over France.
"But you got Wemby and Rudy; why would he play with y'all? [Victor] Wemby and Rudy [Gobert], what more do y'all want? You want three 7-footers?" Edwards said while laughing, according to BasketNews.
Edwards makes a fair point, as it would've been difficult for France's coaching staff to maximize the potential of three-star centers. While Wembanyama holds somewhat of a guard skillset, it would be near impossible to play Gobert and Embiid alongside one another. Not to mention, Embiid is vocal about his joy of taking a backseat role on the loaded Team USA roster, something not available with the French squad.
The questioning of Embiid's decision reached its peak following Wednesday's comfortable victory over South Sudan, where he was a healthy scratch. Despite this, the Sixers big man is expected to rejoin the starting lineup in Friday's game against Puerto Rico.
